American Bulldog

The American Bulldog is seen as a classic catch dog breed and is commonly used in the United States for this reason. This big, well-built breed has all the features that make it a perfect capture dog.

On top of that, the breed protects humans and is great with children to be used for hunting or as a pet.

Florida Cracker Cur

Florida Cracker Cur was, as its name implies, bred in Florida to serve as a trapped dog for hunting wild boar. This dog was bred for the characteristics of a broad, firm jaw and overall physical strength, making it one of the best options for hog hunting dogs.

Black Mouth Cur

The Black Mouth Cur is a faithful and protective berry dog breed. This breed is a great choice both as a pet and as a hunting partner. The benefit of the Black Mouth Cur is its rare combination of intelligence and strength.

This loyal and strong breed is a powerful force in hunting big game. They were specially bred as wild boar hunting dogs though they can handle bears and raccoons. You’re going to be hard-pressed to find a more faithful hunting breed.

Blue Lacy

The Blue Lacy was originally bred in Texas to hunt large-scale games and protect agricultural land and livestock. They are fantastic bay dogs with powerful, agile minds who can learn very quickly.

They’re quick to train for this purpose. This dog breed is highly enthusiastic and loyal. Still, as one of the boar hunting dogs, it can be aggressive and is not recommended as a pet.

Catahoula Cur

The Catahoula Cur is generally regarded as one of the best breeds of bay dogs. They are celebrated for their excellent sense of smell and ability to track. This odd-looking dog has patchy hair and an iridescent eye. If you’re looking into how to hunt hogs with dogs or for a family dog, the Catahoula Cur is a good pick.

Dogo Argentino

This dog, one of a few boar hunting breeds that isn’t coming from American bulldogs. This distinctive breed was first bred in Argentina for the hunting of boar. This dog is massive, immensely strong, with a large jaw. The breed can take down a fully-grown boar, which is perfect if you’re looking for a hog hunting dog. This breed is highly protective as a guard dog.

Catahoula Leopard Dog

Combine all of this with their lightweight, stable nature, and you’ve got a recipe for a winning catch dog. This is one of the best catch dogs for hogs. They should only be aware that they can be aggressive even around humans and are not recommended as pets for children.

The Catahoula Leopard Dog is one of the best hog hunting dog breeds. Bred from a wide range of breeds, such as the American Greyhound and the Spanish Mastiff in Louisiana, these are powerful dogs bred to monitor wild hogs and cattle and to adapt perfectly to them.

Other theories suggest these dogs have been bred with wolves by Native Americans! These dogs are remarkably non-aggressive in their position of hunting and staying calm. Still, they can be very protective of family members and cautious of strangers.

Males are up to 90lbs and 26 inches tall. These dogs are lively and can become aggressive without adequate exercise. Unfortunately, they can suffer from deafness and hip dysplasia, so be on the lookout for these issues.

Theodore Roosevelt is well known for hunting with Catahoula Leopard Dogs, which gives them a good endorsement. These dogs need a good, confident owner to succeed. So make sure that you can fulfill this task before getting a Catahoula, as they are more suited to living as work animals than house pets.
