Dog breeds that fit under airplane seat: Mateese, Yorkies, and more

The world we live in today is vastly different from the world we used to inhabit back in the day. Back then, if you decided to go on vacation, you had to leave your dog at home. For most dog owners, traveling abroad and exploring new locations without their four-legged companion by their side is a waste of time.

However, for the trip to take place, you must adhere to the rules. In addition to keeping your pet’s veterinary inspection certificate on hand, you’ll want to ensure that your pet is allowed on the plane (in a cabin or otherwise). Airlines have a restricted range of carrier dimensions, and the dog’s weight must match the specifications.

The animal’s weight must be less than 20 pounds, including the weight of the pet carrier.

Jack Russell Terrier

Jack Russell Terriers are gentle dogs that are also excellent travel companions. These puppies, with a height of 10 to 12 inches, can comfortably fit into airplane carriers. Furthermore, their playful disposition makes them ideal emotional support dogs for owners looking for animals that require constant care.

Maltese

On the other hand, Maltese dogs are susceptible to chills and may become ill if they stay wet for an extended period of time. As a result, you’ll need some absorbing pads within the carrier to absorb any mishaps throughout the flight.

Yorkshire Terrier

Yorkshire Terriers (or Yorkies) are definitely amongst the dog breeds small enough to fly in cabin and can comfortably fit under an airplane seat, with an average shoulder height of 8 to 9 inches and 4 to 7 pounds. This means you can bring your emotional support dog with you on your next flight! Furthermore, Yorkies do not need much exercise, which helps them to remain relaxed and comfortable while sleeping in their crate.

Pomeranian

The magnificent and aristocratic Pomeranian is another adorable little dog that can fit under an airplane seat. Because of their gentle temperament and joyful spirit, these tiny dogs make excellent companions.

Pomeranians form strong bonds with their owners and can be loud barkers when left alone. As a result, they would be miserable if they are forced to fly as freight.

Fortunately, most Pomeranians weigh no more than 3-7 pounds and easily fit into an airplane carrier.

Bichon Frise

A Bichon Frise is one of the best travel dogs, an excellent traveling companions. These fluffy white dogs are quick to train, welcoming to anyone they meet and are not easily frightened by loud noises. They are also known to be one of the most affectionate small dogs.

Furthermore, Bichon Frise dislikes being split from their owner and prefers to stay close by their side. When traveling by plane, this is usually not an issue. Most Bichon Frise dogs weigh about 12 pounds and are small enough to fit under airplane seats.

Brussels Griffon

Due to their flat faces, Brussel Griffons can have difficulty breathing at high altitudes. They should never travel in the cargo area.

Pembroke Welsh Corgi

Boston Terrier

The Boston Terrier, with a height of 15-17 inches, is only big enough to fit under an airline seat. This breed is people-oriented and adaptable.  And just a happy animal in general — ideal for those looking for a medium-sized emotional support dog.

Chihuahua

Chihuahuas are small enough to fit in a lady’s purse but have the personality and temperament of a big dog. Chihuahuas, which weigh between three and six pounds, are compatible with most airline-approved soft-sided and hard-sided carriers.

Furthermore, Chihuahuas are courageous, self-assured, and daring. As a result, they won’t be too concerned during the flight.

Chihuahuas, on the other hand, get cold when they are frightened, nervous, or excited. So, before you put your Chihuahua in the carrier, cover them in a jumper.
